Charlie Kirk: Who Was He?

Charlie Kirk has drawn heavy criticism over the years for remarks widely described as racist, Islamophobic, and dismissive of civil rights. Among his statements, he has claimed that “prowling Blacks go around for fun to target white people,” and questioned the competence of Black professionals by saying, “If I see a Black pilot, I’m gonna be like, ‘Boy, I hope he’s qualified.’” He has argued that affirmative action allows people “without the brain processing power” to succeed by “stealing a white person’s slot,” and went so far as to call the passage of the Civil Rights Act of the 1960s “a huge mistake.” Kirk has also voiced support for making the death penalty “public, quick, and televised,” mocked empathy as a “made up new age term,” and attacked Martin Luther King Jr. as “awful” and “not a good person.” His rhetoric has extended to Muslims as well, claiming they intend to “conquer Europe by demographic replacement,” and he has even doubted that Palestine exists at all.

While Charlie did not deserve death, he did need to face the reality that repeated racism carries consequences.
